Licence Types

AEShareNet has simplified the process of copyright licensing by developing four standardised licence templates which comply with Australian copyright law. The four templates have been developed in conjunction with the Australian Government Solicitor’s office and provide a standardised, economic licensing solution to the Australian Vocational Education Sector.

When a training material is offered by a licensor on the AEShareNet system, the licensor will make a decision as to which licence ‘template’ they wish the material to be available under.

A short synopsis of the unique properties of each licence type is given below. To access a detailed licence comparison table click here.

AEShareNet - U

(Unrestricted)

This is suited to such things as marketing materials, professional development materials, brochures, implementation guides, lesson plans - any item where you do not want recognition for your copyright and you want to encourage wide dissemination of material.

  • The supply is usually free material and often downloadable from their website
  • Licensee permitted to exploit material to any end-user
  • There are no licence fees

AEShareNet - P

(Preserved)

This is applicable where changes to the material are not permitted - such as Competency Standards; Training Packages; Reports.

  • The supply usually covers the cost of reproduction, but may be free if it is downloadable
  • No licence fees
  • Enhancements to material not permitted

AEShareNet - S

(Standard)

This is generally for materials developed for wide dissemination in the public interest: such as course outlines and curriculum documents. A major benefit is where Licensees have "enhanced" the material, this is then re-entered into the database to provide continuous updates and new versions of a material.

  • Enormous potential for saving on development costs
  • The amount charged for supply usually covers the cost of reproduction, but may be available as a free download
  • There are no licence fees

AEShareNet - C

(Commercial)

This licence regime is where you can market your materials with a view to gaining some return on investment. Flexible conditions allow you total control of how you wish your material to be used and how pricing is structured. (Very suited to the support materials for training packages, such as assessment materials, learner guides and workbooks, teacher guides etc.)

  • The supply and licensing can be calculated as one fee or separated
  • Terms and fees are customisable to the situation
