AEShareNet has just licensed a new tool for creating and distributing web based surveys. This tools will be used to gather information from Members and will also offer opportunities to highlight a range of services and products available. We plan to use this tool extensively over the next year.
The first Survey was conducted in November 2003 as part of the process for review of the AEShareNet website, and some of the key data is set out in the graph form below. Respondents were invited to add comments as well as answer the binary and multiple-choice questions. Comments were informative and interesting.
The main target areas concentrated on ease of use, search engine usage, and licensing functions. On the ease of use, comments ranged from "very easy to use" to "I have difficulties interrogating the site".On AEShareNet communications responses ranged from "friendly helpful and informative" to "obtuse".
There were many comments around the searching and licensing functions. Some found what they were looking for, some were unsure whether they had searched badly or the desired resources did not exist. Some had not found good links (Pointers) to resource samples/descriptions. Some had found negotiations around a licence complicated due to a range of factors such as delays in replies, determination of a price, or particular conditions requested.
Other members commented that they had not used the site as much as they would have liked to or had not yet rolled out the AEShareNet service across their organisation.

AEShareNet will be conducting more surveys during 2004 as we fine tunes the services and functionality. Thank you to all those who participated this year - look out for some of your suggestions turned into reality during 2004 as the new website in launched and new functionality introduced.
