The table below distinguishes a number of different types of relationship that may exist between original material and derivative material: i.e. Copying, Contextualisation, Enhancement, Supplementary Work and Compilation. It shows how these 5 categories of derivative may be dealt with under the AEShareNet licence regimes. It shows requirements for vetting, ownership of the additional layer of copyright and the derivative as a whole, and requirements for affixing copyright notices and AEShareNet licence marks.

Copyright in the enhanced version (including any fresh layer of copyright arising from the enhancements) vests in the original copyright owner, unless otherwise agreed at time of vetting.Original copyright notice and AEShareNet-S marking must be retained. Allowed. Vetting required in relation to the work as supplemented. Copyright in the supplementary components vests in their creator; copyright in the original work stays with the original copyright owner, unless otherwise agreed at time of vetting. The alternative would be for parties to agree to consolidate copyright in the supplemented version in one or other set of hands, i.e. the 2 options as above for Enhancements. |

Allowed. Copyright ownership as above for any contextualisation, but no vetting of the included material itself. The context in which the work is included would need to be vetted, although not necessarily the whole compilation. This may affect the form of copyright notice the original owner requires to be applied to their component. Copyright in the compilation layer itself vests in the compiler. |
