Ways in which you can use the mark

The marks may be:

Examples

As part of the copyright notice in a printed document

The copyright notice in a printed document

As part of the footer of a printed document

We recommend use of a mark in a footer of every page where sections of a document may be copied (eg a learner pack of selected articles) or where the licensed use only applies to certain sections of a document. In this case the mark might be placed in the footer and the full description and link to the AEShareNet website would be in the copyright notice at the front of the document.

The mark should link directly to the URL shown on the mark except when it links to the copyright statement page on your website which contains more detail about what material is covered by the AEShareNet licence (see next example).

Copies of the marks for you to download

You should always obtain copies of the mark from this page (rather than copying it from existing materials) to both ensure technical quality and check that you have the latest version. Note: if you reference the mark on our server there is no need to download the marks (see below).

If you are using the marks, please notify us by sending an email to sales@tvetaustralia.com.au so that we can advise you on any revised instructions or conditions of use or updated versions.

To copy the graphics in Internet Explorer right mouse click on the graphic (or the filename for B&W version) and select “Save Target As ...”

Text only versions

In situations where it is not possible to use one of the supplied graphics (eg material distributed by plain text email, or text only websites) one of the following texts should be used:

[AEShareNet-FfE] You may use this material subject to the Free for Education licence conditions - see http://www.aesharenet.com.au/FfE2/ for details.
[AEShareNet-U] You may use this material subject to the Unlocked Content licence conditions - see http://www.aesharenet.com.au/U4/ for details.
[AEShareNet-S] You may use this material subject to the Share and Return licence conditions - see http://www.aesharenet.com.au/S4/ for details.
[AEShareNet-P] You may use this material subject to the Preserve Integrity licence conditions - see http://www.aesharenet.com.au/P4/ for details.

The only allowed variation is to precede this by a description of the material covered, for example:

[AEShareNet-U] You may use pages on this website containing the AEShareNet-U mark subject to the Unlocked Content licence conditions - see http://www.aesharenet.com.au/U4/ for details.

A word mark of the form “[AEShareNet-S]” including the square brackets must be used to take the place of the graphic. Note that the word AEShareNet (but not the following hyphen and letter) is italicised wherever possible.

Creating hyperlinks from a mark to the AEShareNet website

It is a condition of use of the mark that, to the maximum practical extent, every use of a mark links to the URL shown on the graphic.

Creating hyperlinks from a web page

There are two ways you can add one of these marks to your web page:

Referencing the graphic files on the AEShareNet server

This is the easiest - just copy the HTML below, the page will display the graphic on your page. The only disadvantages are:

Example HTML using graphic on AEShareNet server
<a href="http://www.aesharenet.com.au/FfE2/" target="_blank"> <img src="http://www.aesharenet.com.au/marks/FfE2markweb.gif" border="0" width="230" height="31" alt="available under an AEShareNet licence"/></a>

Note: if you are using a licence other than Free for Education substitute the blue highlighted text above as follows:

for use in both locations
AEShareNet-FfE ffe2
AEShareNet-U u4
AEShareNet-S s4
AEShareNet-P p4
AEShareNet-C c
AEShareNet-E e

Using the graphic files on your own server

  1. Copy one of the graphics above and save to your hard disk. (for example in Internet Explorer right mouse click on the graphic and select “Save Picture As ...”)
  2. Copy the HTML code shown below into your web page and modify the href URL, graphic file location on your server (eg /images/) and selected graphic filename prefix as shown in blue above and yellow below accordingly.
  3. Copy the web page and the graphic to your webserver.
Example HTML using logo on your server:
<a href="http://www.aesharenet.com.au/FfE/" target="_blank">
<img src="/images/ffe2markweb.gif" border="0" width="230" height="31" alt="available under an AEShareNet licence"/></a>

Creating hyperlinks in a Word document

  1. Copy the required graphic and save on your hard disk as described above.
  2. Insert the graphic in the document (eg using commands Insert > Picture > From File and navigating to where you have saved the graphic)
  3. Select the graphic and use the command Insert > Hyperlink.
  4. Add the URL shown on the graphic (eg http://www.aesharenet.com.au/FfE2/ )
  5. Add the text “available under an AEShareNet licence” under ScreenTip and click OK twice.

Hyperlinks in a PDF document

Create the hyperlink in Word and it should be preserved when you convert the document to PDF.

Hyperlinks in email

Use the text only wording as described above.

Using the marks in publicity material

We would very much appreciate you telling people about the availability of AEShareNet instant licences. However we wish to ensure that links to the pages for specific versions are restricted to materials actually offered for licensing - this will make it easier for us to create a search engine of material available for licensing by recording information about pages which link to these URLs.

For general publicity and information purposes we prefer you to use text descriptions and link them to the generic pages we have created as follows:

Text text links to
AEShareNet-FfE – Free for Education instant licence http://www.aesharenet.com.au/FfE/
AEShareNet-U – Unlocked Content instant licence http://www.aesharenet.com.au/U/
AEShareNet-S – Share and Return instant licence http://www.aesharenet.com.au/S/
AEShareNet-P – Preserve Integrity instant licence http://www.aesharenet.com.au/P/
AEShareNet-C – Commercial Licence http://www.aesharenet.com.au/C/
AEShareNet-E – End-user Licence http://www.aesharenet.com.au/E/

Conversely, please do not use the generic links to offer your material for licence. Your legal situation would be clouded as the detailed licence conditions may change in future and it would not be clear which conditions applied. For more information see Versions of AEShareNet licences.

Using the marks for mediated licences

For instant licences, it is the actual act of applying the mark to the material which constitutes a legal offer of a licence. For mediated licences (C & E) the offer is made by the owner (who is a member of AEShareNet) uploading a description to the AEShareNet website. This also creates a URL which can be used to link directly a page containing the description and allowing anyone to request a licence. (See Licensing Overview for more on instant and mediated licences.)

If you are an AEShareNet member offering C or E licences we request that you upload the description first and get the Material Registration Number (MRN) and then if you wish also add the generic C or E graphic to your material or its description in your online catalogue, but include also a link to the actual MRN. For example:

<p><a href="http://www.aesharenet.com.au/C/"> <img src="http://www.aesharenet.com.au/marks/cmarkweb.gif"
border="0" width="230" height="31" alt="available under an AEShareNet licence"/></a> to request a licence visit:
<a href="http://www.aesharenet.com.au/aes040121416t/"> http://www.aesharenet.com.au/aes040121416t/</a></p>

Replace the Material Registration Number for your material at the locations indicated in yellow.
