Applying the "Free for Education" mark

Note: This page describes how to apply the original "Free for Education" mark to your material. We would prefer you to use the current version. A description of the differences is in Versions of AEShareNet Licences.

Important legal information:

The "Free for Education" mark is a trademark of TVET Australia Limited. You are granted permission to use this mark only if you comply with the conditions set out on this page.
By attaching the mark to your material you are automatically granting anyone in the world permission to use the material for free for educational purposes within the conditions specified in the Free for Education licence. (You still own the material and have control of its use for other purposes including the right to charge for use outside the Free for Education licence.)
By attaching the mark to material you assert that you are the copyright owner or are otherwise entitled to authorise use of the material.
It is a condition of use of the mark that, to the maximum practical extent, every use of the mark links to http://www.aesharenet.com.au/FfE/

The text only version (see below) can be used in emails or email signature file to cover the content of an email or newsletters and discussions distributed via email and in other situations such as text only websites.

We recommend use of the mark in a footer of every page where sections of a document may be copied (eg a learner pack of selected articles) or where the free use only applies to certain sections of a document. In this case the mark might be placed in the footer and the full description and link to the AEShareNet site would be in the copyright notice at the front of the document.

The mark should link directly to the URL http://www.aesharenet.com.au/FfE/ except when it links to the copyright statement page on your website which contains more detail about what material is covered by the Free for Education licence (see next example).

Copies of the mark

You should always obtain copies of the mark from this page (rather than copying it from existing materials) to both ensure technical quality and check that you have the latest version.

The graphic may only be used in black and white or the supplied blue colour (RGB: 26, 85, 143 HEX: #1A558F CMYK: 95, 72, 18, 3).

Text only version

Wherever possible we prefer you to use one of the supplied graphics. However this is not possible in some situations (eg material distributed by plain text email, or text only websites). In these situations the following text should be used:

[FfE] You may use and copy this material freely for educational purposes, subject to the Free for Education licence conditions - see http://www.aesharenet.com.au/FfE/ for details.

The only allowed variation is to precede this by a description of the material covered, for example:

[FfE] You may use and copy pages on this website containing the [FfE] mark freely for educational purposes, subject to the Free for Education licence conditions - see http://www.aesharenet.com.au/FfE/ for details.

The word mark "[FfE]" including the square brackets must be used to take the place of the graphic.

Creating hyperlinks from a web page

There are two ways you can add one of these marks to your web page:

Use the graphic files on our server
Copy the required graphic file(s) to your server.

Using the graphic files on the AEShareNet server

This is the easiest - just copy the HTML below, the page will display the graphic on your page. The only disadvantages are:

the graphic may take slightly longer to display (this will not usually affect the speed with which the rest of the page loads)
the graphic will not display if you view a web page on a computer that is not connected to the Internet (or if the AEShareNet server is temporarily unavailable).

Note: if you are using a graphic file other than FfEblue31pixels.gif you will need to change the width and height in the above code as well as the file name. See the table above for pixel sizes of the graphic files.

Using the graphic files on your own server

Copy one of the graphics above and save to your hard disk. (for example in Internet Explorer right mouse click on the graphic and select "Save Picture As ...")
Copy the HTML code shown below into your web page and modify the location (eg /images/) accordingly.
Copy the web page and the graphic to your webserver.

Creating hyperlinks in a Word document

Copy the required graphic and save on your hard disk as described above.
Insert the graphic in the document (eg using commands Insert > Picture > From File and navigating to where you have saved the graphic)
Select the graphic and use the command Insert > Hyperlink.
Add the URL http://www.aesharenet.com.au/FfE/ and click OK

It is also desirable to add the text "available under an AEShareNet Free for Education licence" under ScreenTip.

Hyperlinks in a PDF document

Create the hyperlink in Word and it should be preserved when you convert the document to PDF.

Hyperlinks in email

Use the text only wording as described above.

What you may not do with the mark

You may not, without our written permission:

Change the colour or shape of the supplied graphics. Please contact us if for some reason you need the graphic in a different colour or format to those supplied above.
Use the mark for any purpose other than to indicate that the material it covered by the AEShareNet Free for Education licence.
